This is just based on my experience and I think this is worth to share and write. If you want to buy a Digital SLR camera. Today, before we decide and get the gadgets that we want. It is a good step to Google it first then read, read and read reviews about that item. Know its Pros and Cons and get satisfied. I’m sure before you have planned to buy it, there’s a lot of reviews available on the internet so better read those and don’t be lazy unless you want to regret in the end, that you just put your money into waste, blaming yourself over and over again.
People often ask, what is the best Digital SLR camera? My answer to this, the best Digital SLR camera is one that helps you take photos that you love. All digital SLRs on the market today are very similar, and they all take great photos. Comparing digital SLR cameras is a lot like comparing apples to apples. Like being faced with a large pile of apples, how do you pick the best one for you?
I’ve read a lot reviews about what entry level DSLR should I buy, ask people that has an experience about that item, listen and pay attention to those details that they are mentioning about. It will cost you nothing so better do these steps first before you proceed to the next steps. Be a Prosumer! A person who takes pride in buying high-quality items after research. Isn’t it cool?! ;)
I guess you have done great as you follow those tips above. Now, here’s the steps on how buy a Digital SLR here in the Philippines. By the way, I live in Davao and the following are the steps that I took when I purchased my first Digital SLR Camera.
Look for Online Community and Camera Stores
I actually visited DavaoSale, TipidPC and Sulit.com, They are online communities dedicated on selling/advertising stuff online. It is much like eBay so I guess you can figure it out by now. After browsing these sites, I have found that a member of TipidPC is actually selling a DSLR at a very low price. My first move was quite good, and my second move was the best and what I did, was to look for famous camera stores here in the Philippines. I have found out that the price from TipidPC is almost Php2, 000 higher compare to prices from camera stores. Henry’s Camera & Photo Supply and Mayer’s Camera Shop are the two competing stores in terms of low price and cheap camera accessories. In my case, I purchased mine from Henry’s Camera Shop and you can contact them through landline (02) 734-5099, 733-77-23, Fax 734-4018 or cell phone 0921-322-3358. Actually, the cell phone number is not official; it’s a cell phone number of their clerk named Josie. So, in case you don’t have a budget to make a long distance call, you can text them but it is not recommended. Now, you know where I purchase my first Digital SLR Camera. The process was so easy; you just have to follow the few steps below.
FYI: Henry’s Camera Shop is located at 310 P. Gomez Street, Quiapo, Manila (Near SM Shoemart)
Contact the Store
Contact the store and confirm your order. Actually, the moment that you confirm your order, they’ll give you the process on what to do next. They will tell you that if you deposit your payment today, you will receive your ordered item by tomorrow. (I deposited it through their BPI Account)
Deposit your payment
They will instruct you to pay in full (the total amount of your items) through a bank deposit. In my case, I deposited my payment through the owners account: Henry L. Ong (BPI Account). Geez, I’m quite scared, it was my first time to make a transaction like this. Just a phone call and that’s it. Anyway, I have sent a text message to Josie (Store Clerk) informing them that I have deposited the full amount of the item from BPI Davao Branch. They replied that they received the amount and they asked for my complete address so they can forward the item to the shipping company and deliver it to my house.
In my case, the shipping company was AP Cargo (3x cheaper than LBC). It was Cash on Delivery, so I pay for the handling and shipping once I received the item. Josie informed me for the total amount of shipping fee after they have forwarded it to the shipping company.
Wait for the item to arrive
The most thrilling part is to wait for your item to arrive. There’s nothing you can do but to wait. This is the most heart-dubbing area of this transaction. Doubting and thinking hard, if I were not really fooled by these people whom I’ve communicated with only through landline calls and text messages. Of course, I am thinking positive that I have not swindled by someone and my intuition is positive too.
The Following Day
Early morning, still in moment of doubt until around 2 in the afternoon, Yepey! I received my item, thank GOD! I received my Nikon D40 in complete and good condition. The package was Nikon D40 Kit + 2Gg Toshiba SD Card + Comet Camera Bag. Yepey again! Lol
So if you wondering where to buy a Digital SLR, I think you can do same as I did whether you live from Davao or not I think it the same process though.
